We know a book is good when it makes us tear up upon first reading. This is that book for us. We held off on an initial read because we were almost embarrassingly attached to Julian Is a Mermaid — and were afraid a lesser sequel could tarnish our feelings for Julian. The beauty and grace of this book makes us love Julian even more, and we now also have a special place in our hearts for his playmate Marisol. Compassion, love, empathy, wisdom, endearing beauty — this book has it all. A rare gem.
