Jon Muth’s gentle water color illustrations and the setting in China make this version of the classic folktale extra special. Three monks travel through the mountains and arrive in a small village, where the villagers have become strangers to each other and everyone is hiding in their houses. However, when the monks suggest making stone soup, slowly everyone comes out and brings something to share. This is a fantastic story about sharing and building community.
