This is the heartbreaking yet gently worded story about a girl who befriends and comforts the cats left behind when people leave during a war. She and her Jewish family have escaped the Nazis and are living in a ghetto, yet she is finding a soft spot and comfort, even while having to summon up tremendous courage.
